St Vincent Diem Orphanage for Disabled Children
Dear friends and sponsors!
I, Sister Anna Hoa Thi Cao, Superior of the The Holy Cross Convent of Huong Phuong, am also the person who is in charge of the Vincent Orphanage House of Hope. In the course of carrying out our pastoral work, we saw that Quang Binh province had a great number of orphaned children and poor people with disabilities who are homeless. Being empathetic to these, our unfortunate brothers and sisters, we reached out to help them.
By 2006 we were sheltering an average of 15 to 20 disabled children and homeless people at our convent each year. The number kept rising, so in 2008 we established the St Vincent Diem Orphanage for Children with Disabilities (Vincent Orphanage House of Hope). The orphanage now looks after about 80 children and adults who are orphaned, have disabilities, or are homeless. We take in both Christians and non-Christians. Children at the orphanage suffer from various circumstances, such as cerebral palsy, deafness, blindness and psychiatric problems.
By 2011, we had residents of various ages:
§ 10 children aged from 1 to 5
§ 32 children aged from 5 to 15
§ 20 children aged from 16 to 18
§ 7 people aged from 19 to 21
§ 11 people aged from 21 to 55
On behalf of Holy Cross Convent of Huong Phuong and of the children at the Vincent Orphanage, I want to express my great gratitude to you. With the intercession of the Virgin Mary and Saint Vincent Diem Thi Nguyen, may our loving God bless and be with you always.
