FoVO has no paid staff and no office overheads: our administrative costs are covered by members of our board. Donate directly to FoVO and 100% of your gift goes to assistance on the ground: poverty relief, disability support, village development, health, education and housing. If you need an Australian tax-deductible receipt, donate online through Myriad Australia, our DGR-1 partner; Myriad deducts a 5% administration fee (plus any applicable payment processing fees) before forwarding funds to FoVO projects.

Each financial year our founder takes a motorbike across the length of the country to see the needs first-hand, and every project is written up with photos, costings and receipts.

Where your money goes

FoVO has no office, no paid staff and no fundraising overhead. All of the charity's administrative costs are covered by members of the board, so 100% of every donation made directly to FoVO goes to direct assistance in Vietnam.

Donations made online through Myriad Australia, our DGR-1 partner, are the tax-deductible path: Myriad deducts a 5% administration fee (plus any applicable payment processing fees) before forwarding funds to FoVO projects. Direct transfers to FoVO are not tax-deductible.

Wherever we can, we fund in-kind rather than handing over cash: school materials, medicines, livestock, water filters, building work. Larger projects are funded in stages against a detailed cost plan, and each stage is acquitted with photos and receipts. It is a deliberate choice: it reduces the risk of theft or embezzlement and means donors can see exactly where their gift went.

Since 2011 we have assisted more than 35 orphanages and shelters, alongside village and family projects right across Vietnam. Every program is judged by one question: if the funding stopped tomorrow, would life still be better? If the answer is no, we do something else.

Leave a bequest

You can leave a bequest in your will to Friends of Vietnam Orphanages. There are three main ways to do it: below is the exact wording for you or your solicitor to use.

A proportion of your estate: your gift is not affected by fluctuations in the size of your estate:

"I give and bequeath (free of all duties) ……% of my estate to Friends of Vietnam Orphanages Incorporated, 5 Wangara Street, Aranda, ACT 2614 Australia in aid of Friends of Vietnam Orphanages Incorporated and for its general purposes, with the written acknowledgement of Friends of Vietnam Orphanages Incorporated to be accepted by my executors as a full and complete discharge."

The residue of your estate: it is important to include a residuary clause to dispose of any assets not otherwise mentioned:

"I give and bequeath (free of all duties) the rest and residue of my estate to Friends of Vietnam Orphanages Incorporated, 5 Wangara Street, Aranda, ACT 2614 Australia in aid of Friends of Vietnam Orphanages Incorporated and for its general purposes, with the written acknowledgement of Friends of Vietnam Orphanages Incorporated to be accepted by my executors as a full and complete discharge."

A fixed sum: the simplest form of bequest:

"I give and bequeath (free of all duties) the sum of $…… to Friends of Vietnam Orphanages Incorporated, 5 Wangara Street, Aranda, ACT 2614 Australia in aid of Friends of Vietnam Orphanages Incorporated and for its general purposes, with the written acknowledgement of Friends of Vietnam Orphanages Incorporated to be accepted by my executors as a full and complete discharge."
